Happy Birthday! Marc Andreyko Turns 45 Years Old Today

Veteran comic book writer Marc Andreyko, best known for his work on DC Comics' Manhunter, turns 45 years old today.

Early in his comics career, Andreyko co-wrote the limited series Torso with Brian Michael Bendis, for which he was nominated for the Angoulême International Comics Festival Prize Awarded by the Audience and the Prize for Scenario (script) in 2003. The story, based on true events centering on a serial killer who crossed paths with Eliot Ness, has been in and out of development in Hollywood for years. In the years since, he's worked on a number of creator-owned series including The Lost and, more recently, The Illegitimates with Saturday Night Live veteran Taran Killam.

Andreyko and P. Craig Russell also created an Eisner- and Harvey-winning one-shot for Marvel Comics featuring Dr. Strange entitled "What Is It That Disturbs You, Stephen?"

Between 2004 and 2010, Andreyko worked on DC Comics' Manhunter, co-creating the Kate Spencer version of the character and earning ecstatic reviews. Under Andreyko and the artists with whom he worked, Spencer was a district attorney by day and a superhero by night, using equipment stolen from an evidence locker to exact her own version of justice on supervillains the system had failed to punish. It was cancelled and resurrected a few times, ultimately ending up as a backup feature in Batman: Streets of Gotham.

His reputation for writing women well landed Akdreyko jobs working on one-shots like Superman Returns: Ma Kent and Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Oracle before heading to IDW to work on True Blood and develop The Illegitimates. More recently, he was named the writer of Batwoman after the controversial departure of the original New 52 creative team.

Andreyko recently finished Wonder Woman '77, a digital-first miniseries set in the world of the Lynda Carter TV series.
