Is Tom Felton's Character on The Flash Evil? "They Came To Me For a Reason"

One of the biggest off-season moves for any of the various superhero shows on TV right now was The CW's announcement that they had recruited Harry Potter franchise antagonist Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy to you) to play Julian Dorn, a fellow CSI whose intellect rivals Barry's and who suspects that the Fastest Man Alive is hiding something.

After years of playing a jerk, Felton has come to be expected as a villain, so when he was brought in, plenty of folks suspected that he would play a bad guy in Central City as well. So far, there's not much to say that's correct, although with Dr. Alchemy being a hooded baddie whose voice will be played by a different actor than will eventually be unmasked (much like Zoom last year), it's hard not to imagine that will be the case.

So, of course, we had to ask him.

Felton joined ComicBook.com during a press event at last week's Comic Con International: San Diego for a brief interview. You can see it here, or read on below.

When you were announced, I remember thinking that there was a week when all four of the DC shows made Harry Potter references in the same week. Obviously they're watching you; have you been watching The Flash?

No, actually, I'm only up to about halfway through Season Two at the moment and I haven't heard many, but I've been told that Cisco is a big dropper of Harry Potter references.

So far all we really know about Julian is that he's working with Barry and that you're suspicious of him. I think a lot of people assume that means he's going to be a bad guy, but...that's not necessarily true, is it?

I don't know. I mean...they came to me for a reason. I'm not sure what that reason is yet. I know there's going to be some serious material to sink my teeth into at some point. Like you said I think he's suspicious of Barry's position.

I also think he's as smart as Barry. At least in the forensic world, Barry's not used to having a mind as sharp as his around -- and he has a smug air of superiority, I think, over Barry. So, hey, it lends itself to many different choices and many different storylines. It's not really worth speculating because I'm sure the writers have something much cooler in mind.

Obviously "Flashpoint" is an alternate timeline. Have you given any thought to whether you'd like to stick around and continue to exist in the "real" world?

Wait! You mean in real life, or on the show?

I mean, yeah. I'm still trying to figure out all this timeline/Flashpoint stuff. I don't want to misquote anything here, but as far as I know, i didn't exist in the previous timeline, so I'm glad that he has changed something, so now I'm alive!

One of the really cool things about the show is that nothing's solid. Nothing is concrete. Anything can change. You can come back tomorrow and literally play a different version of yourself.
