In its domestic opening weekend, Wonder Woman is expected to rake in just over $100 million at the box office. The total will make Patty Jenkins Hollywood’s female director with the highest-grossing domestic opening yet. After opening in more than 4,000 theaters nationwide, Wonder Woman is expected to rake in even more money outside of the U.S. as predictions expect the film to earn $200 million worldwide.

Prior to Wonder Woman, the director of Fifty Shades of Grey held the domestic box office record. Sam Taylor-Johnson oversaw the BDSM-centric movie which went on to gross $85 million in the U.S. when it opened. Early estimates for Wonder Woman prediceted Jenkins would inherit the title from Taylor-Johnson, but officials only predicted the movie would earn around $95 million at that time.

Clearly, Wonder Woman‘s legion of diehard fans were ready to exceed expectations on that front.

With a budget of $149 million, Wonder Woman will make a profit following its first box office weekend – and fans could not be more proud. Jenkins has become the head of a growing conversation both fans and critics are having about Hollywood’s shifting demographic. Superhero films are no longer a genre with a majorative male audience. Females have steadily increased its turnout to Marvel and DC films, so Wonder Woman‘s overwhelmingly female demographic should surprise no one. 52% of the film’s audience on opening day was female, and out of that pool, 53% of moviegoers were under the age of 35. Wonder Woman has proved studios can make a female-centric action film that won’t flop; Now, it’s time for Hollywood to cater to the tested demographic.

Over on Twitter, fans of Wonder Woman are rallying behind the film’s latest box office achievement. Netizens are honoring Jenkins strong and impassioned vision with thanks on social media, and you can find some of the best congratulations below:

Wonder Woman currently has an 88.36 ComicBook.com Composite Score. It also has a 4.42 out of 5 ComicBook.com user rating, making it the fourth-highest rated comic book movie ever among ComicBook.com readers.
