If Free Comic Book Day wasn't already circled in red on your calendar, then Marvel has just provided a reason to get out that red marker. The next Free Comic Book Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 2, 2009, and Marvel has announced an all-new Avengers comic. The Avengers for Free Comic Book Day brings together Thor, The New Avengers and The Dark Avengers to face an enormous threat. Even better news is that The Avengers FCBD is written by Brian Michael Bendis with art Jim Cheung. Of course, Brian and Jim are the team behind the hit New Avengers: The Illuminati. "We're delighted to bring Marvel's Mightiest Heroes and two of our top creators together for this special event," said David Gabriel, who is Marvel's Senior Vice President of Sales. As is tradition with Marvel Comics, their Avengers FCBD special isn't just a filler issue. In addition to being a starting point for new fans, The Avengers FCBD features an all-new story that ties into Marvel Universe continuity. In fact, Marvel promises that the conclusion of the story will have terrifying consequences for the entire Marvel Universe. Free Comic Book Day is a single day where participating comic book stores around the world give away specific comic books for absolutely free to anyone who visits their stores.
