According to minor The Empire Strikes Back actor John Morton, the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated show (as well as Star Wars: Clone Wars) will remain in continuity even while the greater Expanded Universe is dismissed by Disney, with characters from Rebels apparently existing in Star Wars Episode VII.While at a Star Wars convention in England, Movie Cricket (via GeekTyrant) spoke with Morton, who played Luke Skywalker’s gunner Dak in Empire. The actor, saying that he was speaking from a position of “informed opinion,” called Rebels key to building the continuity of the movies and TV shows.”Rebels is the key. Rebels will provide the link to bring in the continuity from Clone Wars, the Original Trilogy and the Prequels to enable LucasFilm and Disney to tee-up Episode VII,” Morton said. “If you want my informed opinion, it will enable Episode VII to leapfrog over the whole trilogy.”He added, “The key that is going to make this work is Rebels. Rebels will set up and point the direction for Episode VII. The characters they are creating in Rebels will be around in Episode VII.”The series takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, meaning that any characters coming from Rebels into the new film would have to have some reason for not appearing in the original trilogy. There were early rumors that characters from the series would appear in Episode VII, but during that time, speculation centered on Rebels potentially taking place in between Return of the Jedi and Episode VII.Simon Kinberg, who is helping to oversee work on the sequel trilogy and spinoffs, is also working with the Rebels writing staff.
