The episode, titled “Legendary,” will see the team square off against Vandal Savage for the last time.
Savage, it seems, has traveled to World War II, where he’s looking for magical artifacts apparently in the possession of the Nazis. Hawkgirl, who is with him, bumps into a young American soldier during an escape attempt, as seen in a behind-the-scenes clip from the finale below.
And, if you pay close attention, it looks like the helmet he’s wearing belongs to Sgt. Frank Rock of Easy Company, the most famous World War II soldier in DC’s publishing history and a character fans have expected and hoped to see on the show all season.
Could this be Rock himself? It’s impossible to tell without context, but there’s certainly a key piece of evidence seen in the photograph above that might steer you that way.
While the actor above looks a bit young and skinny for Frank Rock, and sounds pretty uncertain, the fact that he’s wearing that helmet is going to raise some questions. One just like it — complete with the same three bullet holes — has been sitting on board the Waverider since the start of the season and was singled out in a DC Instagram post as Sgt. Rock’s helmet.
Sgt. Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, and first appeared in Our Army at War #83 (June 1959). He’s an eagle-eyed shot, precision grenade hurler, excellent hand-to-hand fighter, extraordinary strength and exceptional healing abilities.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow concludes its first season tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
