Nintendo Switch owners were thrown for a loop when Psyonix announced that it would bring the beloved racing/sports hit Rocket League to its console sometime later this year. But, with that, the team hasve found a prime opportunity to bring some exclusive cars into the fold – and Nintendo fans won’t be disappointed.

The company has confirmed that when the Switch version arrives this autumn, it’ll have a few exclusive cars in tow, based on the Mario and Metroid franchises. And, yes, they’re pretty damn beautiful.
The cars will be available as “special unlockables,” though Psyonix didn’t note just what kind of hoops we’d be able to jump through to get them. We’ll find out soon enough – gotta settle this Mario/Metroid beef somehow…
It’s-a Mario!
First up are the Mario and Luigi NSR models, which feature cars colored after their traditional uniforms. As you can see, Mario’s is colored in bright red with an “M” logo on the front (along with adorable yellow headlights), while Luigi’s is green with the “L” logo. And it looks like we’ll be getting some exclusively themed Mario arena as well, where players can take on one another in a village that looks like it’s been taken straight from the Mario Sunshine universe. Of course, that’s just a passing glimpse. Something tells us that a new trailer for the game will give us a better idea of where we’ll be battling.
Here Comes Samus!
But if you think the Mario vehicles are smexy numbers, you haven’t seen anything yet. Samus Aran’s themed Metroid Samus Gunship car is remarkable, featuring a sharp gold color trim, along with a green windshield and glowing green tires. On top of that, its vapor trail looks like something along the lines of a lightning burst, similar in color to Samus’ Wave Beam. And she also looks like she’ll be getting her own custom arena in the game, complete with light-up floors, dark hallways and other little touches that make it a bit moody when it comes to scoring goals. Hopefully, we’ll see more of this in action soon enough as well.
And There’s More!
In addition to the cars, we’ll also be getting some exclusive hats for the game, as both the traditional Mario and Luigi hats will be available, should you prefer normal cars for some given reason. Nintendo hasn’t revealed these yet, but we’ll more than likely see them in a forthcoming trailer. Now, the only question is if we’ll get a Metroid helmet as well, or at the very least, a rolled-up Metroid ball bobber that we can put on the antenna of the car. Again, because reasons.
Keep an eye out for more information on these great cars – which should be included free of charge with the full game – when Rocket League rolls our way to Nintendo Switch later this year.
