The recently announced shooter from Square Enix made its debut earlier in the week at the Tokyo Game Show, but did little in the way of giving fans any real insight into the upcoming title. With the most recent trailer, more details have come to light from the upcoming title – including a sneak peek into gameplay.

Left Alive is meant to be the spiritual successor Front Mission, an RPG that originated back in 1995 for the SNES. The game itself will be set within the same universe as the Front Mission franchise, within the time frame of Front Mission 5 and Front Mission Evolved. In year 2127, Left Alive‘s premise will center around Russia and will see many familiar faces from throughout the franchise. But the latest title will be much more than just an homage to a previously stated series. The game itself is shaping up to be quite the experience through its difficult decision making processes, paramount choices, and three different protagonists.

Like similar decision-making games, there is still that one singular ultimate ending but the road there will be different for each player. According the recent trailer, the “outcome” of each character will be entirely reliant on the individual choices made during a single playthrough.

This third-person shooter will feature a lot of stealth, careful attention to detail, as well as in-game crafting for suitable weapons and other vital gear to a more successful playthrough.

The game itself bears many similarities to the Metal Gear series, and that is in part due to the fact that Hideo Kojima was a part of the planning process in the game’s beginnings, as well as the artist Yoji Shinkawa – who is known for his artwork for the MGS franchise.

Though we still have no concrete release information at this time, Left Alive is slated for a 2018 window on PlayStation 4 and PC.
