Bloodborne Remake Gets Disappointing Update From Insider

Bloodborne, developer FromSoftware’s PlayStation 4 exclusive, quickly became a hit with fans when it launched in 2015, thanks to its captivating gothic setting and fast-paced gameplay. Despite being so popular, Bloodborne has never been ported forward to modern consoles, something that’s especially annoying given its frame rate issues on PS4. Rumors have persisted for years that Sony and FromSoft might be working on a Bloodborne remake, finally giving fans the buttery-smooth gameplay they crave. Unfortunately, a recent report has bad news about the remake, and Bloodborne fans are, understandably, distraught.

The new report comes from Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who mentioned on his Games Mess Decides podcast that he’d “checked in on it (Bloodborne) relatively recently, and kinida continued to hear nothing is happening.” This was mentioned during a discussion about games being ported to PC, though it would stand to reason that if a Bloodborne remake launched on PC, it would also come to PS5. Either way, it’s important to take Grubb’s info with a massive grain of salt. He has successfully leaked quite a bit over the last several years, but no one’s information is always correct.

Bloodborne Remake Fan Reactions

As you’d expect, given the sad news, fans quickly jumped to Reddit to voice their displeasure. After all, they’ve been wanting this remake for nearly a decade, but for whatever reason, FromSoft and Sony haven’t been able to make it happen. As one Reddit user named charliegs1996 put it, “My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.”

That said, many fans are, somewhat sarcastically, clinging to their blind hope. It worked out for Hollow Knight: Silksong fans, after all. Redditor 418_I_am_a_teapot said, “‘Or that’s what they want us to believe, and there is a Bloodborne waiting to be announced on the next State of Play!’ Me, typing this after taking a massive amount of copium this morning.”

It’s clear fans online would love this remake; the question is, why hasn’t it happened? There’s the concern that the vocal online community might be a loud minority, and the remake wouldn’t sell well. Though the previously mentioned Silksong dealt with a similarly long road to release, and has already sold over four million copies. The online audience might represent only a small portion of video game fans, but they tend to show up for games they love.

The real issue probably comes from developer FromSoft and director Hidetaka Miyazaki. It’s never been confirmed by Sony, but the scuttlebutt we’ve heard over the years is that Miyazaki will only let someone work on Bloodborne if he’s attached. He is currently working on The Duskbloods for Nintendo Switch 2 and was the lead on Elden Ring before that. Unless he decides to make his next project Bloodborne-related, we probably won’t hear from that universe anytime soon.

Of course, it’s important to note that all of this is speculation. Unless Sony or FromSoft announces something specific, it’ll be years before we learn about anything currently happening behind the scenes with Bloodborne. Thankfully, as Reddit user sup9817 put it, “It’s okay, hopefully they will remaster The Last of Us again for PS6.” Jokes aside, The Duskbloods launches next year, so we should start to hear about FromSoft’s next project relatively soon.
