It’s a feverish three-way battle for the best racing game this month, as some heated competition is starting to hit shelves. Bandai Namco’s Project Cars 2 arrived late last month to get an early start, but Forza Motorsport 7 from Microsoft just dropped this week, bringing a hearty amount of content that no truly appreciative driving fan should be without. And in just a couple of weeks, Sony will debut Gran Turismo Sport for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.

While we have yet to see a comparison video showing how Project Cars 2 stacks up against the competition, a YouTube poster by the name of RaymanGaming HD has posted a new video that compares Forza Motorsport 7 and Gran Turismo Sport in its beta form – and it’s a lot closer race than you might realize.
Both clips feature a bright yellow Corvette C7 racing along the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, and, upon closer inspection, they’re pretty damn close in comparison, with a lovely, detailed look at the track’s realism, along with a fast frame rate and other little things, such as shading.
Upon closer inspection of the video, Gran Turismo Sport has a lighter edge when it comes to its lighting and car detail, especially with the glimmer coming off of the Corvette. That said, Forza Motorsport 7 looks terrific as well, with a brighter look at the track and the indicators on the ground letting you know when a turn is coming up.
The frame rate looks steady for both versions, and the engine noises are genuinely authentic, with the hum sounding like the real deal across the board.
So which version wins? Well, it’s too soon to call. Forza Motorsport 7 plays like a dream, as you can see from our previously posted review, but Gran Turismo Sport isn’t too shabby either, with pinpoint controls that make you feel like a driving champion. So it’s difficult to crown a winner here.
Actually, the winners are racing fans, because no matter which way they go, they’ve got a monster hit on their hands. But you can still vote for which game is your favorite in the included poll.
Forza Motorsport 7 is available now for Xbox One and Windows 10; and Gran Turismo Sport releases on October 17th for PlayStation 4.
