Madden NFL 18 Update Notes Include Exploit Fix and Gameplay Changes

The latest Madden NFL 18 update is now available for players to download with a couple of gameplay changes included.

EA Sports announced that release of update 1.09 early on Jan. 9 after testing the changes that the Madden team decided on based on player feedback. Fake-outs were the subject of the first couple of changes that are shipping with update 1.09, but the patch also tackles problems involving the AI and a kickoff exploit.

Alongside the gameplay changes that are listed below, the game's team also included a developer's note to further explain why they made some of the changes that they did.

Gameplay Updates

  • Substantial reduction to fake-outs for user controlled defenders when defending ball carrier special moves
  • Slight reduction to fake-outs for AI controlled defenders when defending ball carrier special moves
  • Addressed an issue that was causing some AI controlled ball carriers to move slowly and/or not perform special moves
  • Tuned to decrease range of width on kickoffs to address the kickoff exploit that could force returners out of bounds inside their own five-yard line

"Developer Note: Players have given us feedback that they'd like more control when clicked-on to a defender in pursuit. We wanted to provide more opportunities for both user-controlled and AI-controlled defenders to make tackles vs. jukes and spins."

Aside from the new patch, Madden NFL 18 also recently made headlines thanks to a very strange ad for the game. The Xbox ad featured NFL star Marshawn Lynch talking to his hand that was decked out with a pair of eyes and some long hair that resembled Lynch's. It's an odd ad, but it combines the game, Xbox, and the NFL in an interesting way that definitely got the attention of fans of all three.

The latest update for Madden NFL 18 is now available across all platforms, and the game itself is available for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
