Since Pokemon Legends: Z-A was first announced, fan reactions have been mixed. In the lead-up to the game, we’ve seen mostly Mega Evolution reveals and battle mechanics. Even the demo at Worlds and preview opportunities for press and creators primarily focused on these specific elements. That left many fans, myself included, wondering what else the game has to offer. With the October 16th release date looming, Pokemon Legends: Z-A just revealed its most in-depth trailer yet. And it has fans more excited for the next Pokemon game than ever.

On October 2nd, Nintendo of America posted a brand-new Overview Trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The 6-minute video is the most in-depth look we’ve gotten at the game so far, and it lets us in on a bit more of the story. After seeing this trailer, many fans are feeling more optimistic about the new installment… even if some comments still dig into fan frustration about that pre-release DLC announcement.
New Trailer Suggests Legends: Z-A Is Leaning Into Detective Pikachu Vibes
Although we’ve heard bits and pieces about the plot of Legends: Z-A before, this new trailer digs in more than ever before. We get a few character introductions and a bit more of an overview about the plot of the game. Given how battle-heavy everything else we’ve seen has been, this is an encouraging sign in my book. But before we dig in, you can check out the Switch 2 overview trailer for Legends: Z-A for yourself below:
The video gives us a better look at Lumiose City, showing off quite a few areas that haven’t been revealed before. It also reveals some jazzed-up Kalos music, which fans are very much enjoying. But best of all, in my opinion, is that we get a bit more insight into the game’s plot. And it looks like we’ll be taking a page out of Detective Pikachu’s book, teaming up with a detective to help solve mysteries around Lumiose City.
I’ve long suspected that the lack of plot details for Z-A might hint at a more involved, mysterious plot. And this suggests that my hopeful theory that the story will be more involved than the Battle Royale of it all might prove correct after all. The trailer notes that the mystery of Rogue Mega Evolution is “one of the cases you’ll investigate,” which suggests there may be other incidents for Team M-Z to look into. And this better look at the game has many fans ready to dig in. As one comment puts it, “It looks so fun! I can’t wait!”

That said, not everyone is convinced. Many have noticed that this trailer is specific to the Switch 2 edition of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Though the game is releasing for the Switch as well, the lack of footage showing how it’ll run has some people concerned about performance. On top of that, many are frustrated about the DLC announcement, which has left some players with overall sour feelings about Z-A before it’s even out yet. One of the top comments on the trailer reads, “Announcing a DLC before the game’s release is insane,” and the number of upvotes suggests many Pokemon fans share the sentiment.
All in all, though, this latest trailer is certainly well timed to build up hype for the October 16th release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. It gives us a better sense of what we’re getting outside of battles and Megas, and I, for one, am very much here for it.
