There's something about the sheer beauty of Blizzard's animated shorts for the game Overwatch that makes us all warm and fuzzy. Perhaps it's the high level of quality; perhaps it's the way that the characters seem to come alive outside the game. But, just in time for this week's Gamescom event, the team has returned with an all-new short, this time focusing on Mei, the ice-shooting goddess that's become a fan favorite.

In the short, we see Mei taking part in an experiment where everyone seems to go through some kind of cryofreeze. She eventually comes to after a short period of time, prepping breakfast and checking her messages, in which she discovers something quite disturbing – she's actually been asleep for nine years.

She soon discovers that the lapse in time has resulted in the disbanding of Overwatch, and the fact that all of her team members are still stuck in cryostatus, without any kind of pulse.

Determined to not let her work go to waste, Mei sets out into the frozen tundra to try and fix the satellite dish, but can't get it to work. She also finds her modes of transport frozen over, forcing her to figure out what to do next. She eventually realizes that she can repair the dish and try to notify her team that team Overwatch is still around.

We won't spoil the rest of the short, as you'll need to watch it for yourself to see what happens next. But let's just say that if you really enjoyed how the past shorts went, you'll find this one to be a pretty cool addition.

You can watch the short above, and look forward to more additions to the Overwatch core game over the next few months, including more maps and, hopefully, more Heroes to pit against the regular cast of characters.

Overwatch is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
