Pokemon Go is making a splash this holiday season.

Earlier today, Pokemon Go officially announced their holiday event, which will be jam-packed with festive presents for players. Beginning today at 1 PM PST, the "Santa Hat Pikachu" will officially make its return to the game along with a few new Pokemon from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire.

According to the official press release, new Water and Ice-Type Pokemon from the Hoenn region will start appearing in the game, joining the 50 or so new "Gen 3" Pokemon previously released earlier this year. In addition, Ice-Type Pokemon will start appearing in greater frequency all around the world...regardless of the weather.

Pokemon Go is also bringing back the special single use Egg Incubators for a limited time. Players will get a free Egg Incubator when they spin a PokeStop or Gym beginning on December 22 at 1 PM PST, with a limit of one per day.

In addition, Pokemon Go is also adding some new festive item bundles to their in-game store. Players can buy discounted boxes that include Super Incubators, Lure Modules and Star Pieces, a new type of item that gives bonus Stardust for 30 minutes when activated. Beginning on Christmas Day, a new set of boxes will get added that contain Premium Raid Passes and Super Incubators.

While the official press release didn't mention the long-awaited Pokemon Delibird at all, a promo image for the event contained another surprise. The Legendary Pokemon Kyogre can be seen lurking in the ocean in the image, spurring speculation that it could become a new raid boss just for the holiday season.

The event starts later today, so get your PokeBalls ready and get ready to catch some new Pokemon!
