The latest expansion for The Sims 4 was announced back in August with a reveal trailer that instantly got fans of the franchise excited about the prospect of finally adding some lovable fur balls to their carefully crafted households. With near endless combination possibilities for creating canine or feline friends, the new gameplay trailer gives a peek at what to expect before the upcoming content is released in November.
To start, players must first select whether they want to have a cat or a dog in their family. That’ll likely be the easiest decision that you’ll make, because after that, the options open up tenfold where you select different breeds, sizes, colors, hairstyles, traits, and pretty much any other characteristic that you can think of for the pets. It doesn’t appear as though EA Games has slacked on the breed possibilities either. In the trailer, typing just one letter into the breed search bar pulled up a drop-down list of possible dog breeds that expanded to the bottom of the menu. A new feature also allows players to dress up their pets with certain clothing options, so if you’re hoping to make your companion look just like you, you’ll have that opportunity.
Just like creating people in The Sims 4, the pet creation process will also allow you to assign three different traits to each pet. Combining the Friendly, Playful, and Active traits on a pet will make them much more willing to head outside and play fetch, Smart pets will learn tricks quicker, and Mischievous animals will quickly get into trouble when you turn your back.
You can also modify pets’ faces and their colors through a face-molding and paint feature, a preview that showed an interesting glimpse at what appears to be a robotic cat at the 1:52 mark. It doesn’t show whether this cat is actually a mechanized animal or just a clever paint job, but if it’s the former, it looks like players will have even more possibilities than they thought.
The Cats & Dogs expansion for The Sims 4 is scheduled to release on Nov. 10 for the PC and Mac.
