Recently, Joe Russo did an interview with CinemaBlend, and the executive was questioned about his Marvel tenure. It was there the director admitted the hardest part of making Avengers: Infinity War was in tying together all of the MCU’s dangling story lines.

“Everything is setting up Infinity War. Every narrative that you have seen in any of the Marvel movies leading up to this point comes to bear in some way because all of the characters and all of the franchises are coming together, bringing their themes and their tone and the things that motivate the characters are driving them through this story,” Joe started.

“It has been the hardest part of the job for us, is melding all of that together, But thankfully, we got [Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely working with us,” the director continued, nodding to the film’s writers.

“They are incredible collaborators. They wrote Winter Soldier for us, and Civil War. Now they’re writing both Avengers movies. I feel like we’ve got a great Vulcan mind meld between the two of them, and me and my brother.”

Fans shouldn’t be surprised to learn how difficult the Avengers flick has been to create; After all, the movie will bring the MCU to a climax on the eve of its tenth anniversary. With more than a dozen films under its belt, the franchise has plenty of characters and even more story lines to weave into with one another. However, the Russo Brothers seem confident their writers have tied everything together nicely.

After all, Markus and McFeely do have experience with big-scale films. The writers were praised for their work on The Winter Soldier, but Civil War elevated the MCU’s stakes to a whole new level. The movie starred a large cast of new and returning heroes, giving the writers a taste of what they’d have to balance with Avengers: Infinity War‘s massive roster.
