Marvel’s The Defenders left Daredevil/Matt Murdock in a precarious place, having barely survived the collapse of the Midland Circle building in his battle with Elektra and The Hand – only to wind up in a covenant that has deep ties to his past, with most of the world believing he is dead.

We’re still wondering what that setup means for Daredevil season 3’s story – but today, a casting reveal may give us a hint about a particular Marvel Comics villain that could be featured in the show:
The Hashtag Show has a breakdown of a character description for a Daredevil season 3, and it lists the following:
“28-35, 5’9-6’1, Open ethnicity. An athletic but socially awkward FBI Agent, needs structure and rules to suppress the darkness inside himself. Athletic with medium build, responsible and resourceful, hair trigger temper. SERIES REGULAR”
That description has led to speculation that Daredevil Season 3 is bringing the villain Sin-Eater to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Who Is Sin-Eater?
In Marvel Comics, Sin-Eater is Stanley Carter, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who volunteered for an experimental drug that increased strength and stamina. The drugs were found to have dangerous side effects – but it was too late for Carter, who was driven crazy by the meds.ย
When Carter tried his hand as a NYPDย detective, his madness was triggered by the loss of his partner, and the unhinged Carter adopted theย secondary persona of a vigilante who rids the world of “sin” by violently punishing ineffectiveย officials (judges, lawyers, priests) and the criminal elements of society. One of his first victims as Sin-Eater was NYPDย captain Jean DeWolff, who was also Carter’s lover. He also killed Matt Murdock’s friend, Judge Horace Rosenthal, putting him on Daredevil’s radar.ย With his conflicting personalities, Carter ended up in a mental hospital, after battling both Spider-Man and Daredevil.ย
In the MCU, there’s already a precedent for S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and other special operatives going through radical experiments; we learned as much inย Jessica Jones, with the character of Will Simpson, and the experiments that made him an unstable,ย superpowered soldier.
We’ve been expecting Daredevilย season 3 to set up an adaptation of the famous “Born Again” storyline, and there’s certainly room for Sin-Eater to fit into that adaptation. After all, “Born Again” features a Daredevil impostor committing crimes on the behest of The Kingpin; Sin-Eater could easily be the substitution for that forgettable vigilante (who was also a madman). The angle of having a FBIย agent who is also a crazy killer would add aย serial-killer cat-and-mouse game toย Daredevilย season 3.ย
Daredevil season 3 is starting production in October. We’ll keep you updated as more story info is released.ย
