Marvel actor Frank Grillo is still holding out hope for Crossbones to make a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

When asked by Syfy Wire in the video interview above if he’d like to play a different superhero character, given the opportunity, Grillo revealed that he’s still stuck on Brock Rumlow, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and went full supervillain as Crossbones in Captain America: Civil War, where his own bomb seemingly finished him off.
“I’m still interested in Crossbones,” Grillo says. “Who knows? I mean, yeah, he was blown up, but they’re comic book movies, so…Hopefully down the road somewhere Crossbones comes back, which wouldn’t be out of the question. I mean, I don’t know when. It would be cool to do that. I would like to explore more of that.”
However, if Crossbones is off of the table, Grillo thinks replacing an Avenger wouldn’t be too hard.
“Other than that, I would just maybe take [Jeremy] Renner’s bows and arrows away,” Grillo said. “I mean, that seems the easiest thing to do.”
While Crossbones only had two appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has a much longer history as a Captain America villain the Marvel Comics universe. He’s often partnered with Sin, the daughter of the Red Skull, and was a member of the Master of Evil, the villainous group founded by Baron Zemo, who is currently imprisoned in the MCU following the events of Civil War. If Marvel Studios ever decides to introduce either into its universe, bringing back Crossbones wouldn’t be out of the question.
