Avengers: Age of Ultron felt like a stepping stone toward Captain America: Civil War for many Marvel fans, however, it may have held a major tease of what is next for the God of Thunder which was overlooked in the upcoming brawl’s excitement.

Having sat out Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and Doctor Strange, Thor was last seen heading back to Asgard just before the credits rolled in Age of Ultron and we were left most curious about where the Hulk ended up. The final moments of the film may actually have been incredibly important heading into both the Hulk and Thor’s returns in Thor: Ragnarok.

Prior to bringing the Vision to life by activating the Mind Stone, Thor went on a spiritual journey courtesy of Dr. Eric Selvig. In his vision, he attained his first bits of knowledge regarding the Infinity Stones which were introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the Mind Stone’s appearance within Loki’s scepter.

Thor’s last moments on Earth were spent sharing the knowledge he had with Steve Rogers and Tony Stark.

“The Mind Stone is the fourth of the Infinity Stones to show up in the last four years,” Thor said. “It’s not a coincidence. Someone has been playing an intricate game and has made pawns of us. Once all of his pieces of in position…”

“Triple Yahtzee,” Stark called it, likely making like of the situation’s true gravity.

Rogers, more responsibly, questioned Thor’s next moves. “You think you can find out what’s coming?” Rogers asked.

Just before heading out, Thor told Rogers, “I do.”

If Thor is to have success in his mission of finding whoever is on the hunt for the Infinity Stones, he will encounter the Mad Titan Thanos who appeared in Age of Ultron‘s post-credits scene, grabbing the Gauntlet.

Furthermore, with Hulk’s fate being left a cliffhanger after Age of Ultron, only for his next MCU appearance to come in Ragnarok, indicates that the previous hero ensemble flick may have actually been more of an Avengers: Infinity War launching point than initially suspected. Thor and the Hulk will reunite in Ragnarok, pitted against one another in a gladiatorial battle, but will inevitably end up working together as all heroes do. Could they be the first Avengers to encounter Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with only Black Panther standing between the respective films’ release dates?
