With this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. largely focusing on the growing issue of the Inhumans, and how to handle them, it seems a natural tie-in to Captain America: Civil War. After a major (direct lead-in-lead-out) tie-in to Winter Soldier and a much more subtle tie-in to Age of Ultron, it looked like, with the issue of powered individuals and how to handle them at its core, the new film and the series would have a direct crossover once more.

"It's something that's gone on since the end of last season when Coulson made Mack and Daisy partners," Clark Gregg, who stars on the series as Phil Coulson told Empire. "She's an Inhuman and he seems to be the most suspicious of aliens and Inhumans. That division is very much manifested in our team. Our show is looking at this Inhumans outbreak, and that's really where the concept of a civil war, our own version of it, is happening."

So, it sounds like it's more of a thematic tie-in, rather than say, using a scene from Civil War as a stinger to an episode of SHIELD, as the first season did with Winter Soldier. Jeph Loeb, EP and head of Marvel TV added, "That feeling of whether or not you're going to be tolerant of someone who is different is really, at the end of the day, what is at the heart of Civil War and what is at the heart of what we are doing for the rest of the season and possibly going into season four."

Henry Simmons, who plays the skeptical Mack, did tease, "If things come to this registration act, the team is going to be divided. it's inevitable."

So perhaps, when we see the Sakovia Accords enacted on the big screen, they'll be directly reacted to on the small as well. For now, it sounds like while, as Loeb loves to say, "It's all connected," the show and film will be able to live on their own in a significant way.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesday nights at 9pm on ABC.
