Chris Evans’ Evil Captain America Takes the Throne in New Avengers: Doomsday Fan Art

A stunning new piece of fan art has sent shockwaves through the Marvel fandom, imagining a chilling alternate reality where Chris Evans’ beloved hero, Captain America, is Hydra’s leader instead. The artwork, created by welove_marvel and shared on Instagram, reimagines the First Avenger not as a symbol of hope and justice, but as a tyrannical leader of the very organization he fiercely fought again. Titled “Captain Hydra,” the piece shows a menacing rendering of Chris Evans seated on a throne inscribed with the Hydra symbol—his iconic shield repurposed with the tentacled Hydra logo.

The image is a striking blend of familiar and terrifying, twisting a character who stands for all that is good into a figure of pure evil.

A Powerful Symbol of Heroism is Twisted into a Terrifying Icon of Tyranny

The fan edit masterfully plays on everything that makes Steve Rogers what he is—the selfless soldier who always puts others first. Chris Evans’ portrayal of Captain America has been the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011, and showing him in this new, sinister light undermines everything we’ve ever known about Captain America. The artist has crafted a look that is both recognizable and deeply unsettling. Evans retains his familiar features, but his hair is longer and his expression is one of cold-hearted resolve, his eyes glowing with an eerie, white light. The classic red, white, and blue uniform is gone, replaced by a sleek, black suit with a menacing red Hydra emblem emblazoned across the chest. The most shocking element, however, is the shield. The symbol of hope and resistance is now a tool of oppression, bearing the sinister Hydra logo. This subtle yet powerful change drives home how dangerous a live-action version of Hydra Captain America could be.

The throne room itself adds to the grim ambiance. Surrounded by crumbling stone pillars and bathed in a sickly green light, it looks more like a crypt than a place of power. The Hydra symbol carved into the back of the throne implies his position as the new leader of the organization. This isn’t just a rogue hero; this is a peak of evil, ready to unleash his dark vision upon the world.

The concept of “Captain Hydra” is not entirely new to comic book fans. In May 2016, shockwaves rippled through the Marvel Comics fandom when Nick Spencer’s Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 was released, with its closing pages showing Steve pledging his allegiance to Hydra in a shocking twist. This was part of  the Secret Empire crossover storyline where a corrupted Captain America, manipulated by a sentient Cosmic Cube, takes over the United States. While this fan art draws clear inspiration from that arc, it brings a fresh twist that reimages the now infamous panel for the MCU. The artwork serves as a testament to just how culturally significant these characters are, as well as the endless creativity of the fandom. It’s a chilling glimpse into a world where the greatest hero has become the greatest threat, leaving us to wonder what it would take to stop him.
