James Gunn has been revealing more about the DCU‘s Batman plans, including interest in another key character for the burgeoning shared universe. The co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios recently provided an update on Batman: The Brave and the Bold‘s release date (which was among the first projects announced by Gunn and Peter Safran), confirming he expects it to arrive this decade. However, he’s also played coy on some others, such as telling fans they’ll have to “wait to see” if Damian Wayne is still to be involved.

One character that Gunn does have plans for, though, is Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. When asked by a fan on Threads if he had plans or interest in bringing the character to the DCU, the Superman director said, “Oh for sure.” While that doesn’t mean it will happen, that Catwoman is already a character Gunn is looking at and wanting to find a place for in this universe is certainly a promising sign for her inclusion.
Who Could Play Catwoman In The DCU?

Catwoman is one of the most iconic among DC’s roster of Batman characters, so it makes sense Gunn has an interest in bringing her to the big screen once again. Selina Kyle has already appeared in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, portrayed by Zoë Kravitz, although she hasn’t yet been referred to by her more common feline moniker (though it will presumably happen). It’s been made clear that Robert Pattinson will not be the DCU’s Batman, but rather an Elseworlds story, which will mean a new Dark Knight actor, and also a new Catwoman, too.
As with any comic book character, there are several fancasts out there. Ana de Armas was reportedly in contention for Catwoman in The Batman, and has remained a popular option among fans for the role, and the same is true for Eiza González. More recently, Adelaide Kane (Reign, Grey’s Anatomy) has been mentioned a lot by fans on platforms such as X and Reddit. Euphoria star Alexa Demie is another who has garnered support in recent months.
All of them have the right mix of being able to capture the character’s duality between light and dark, cunning intelligence, seductive charm, feline-like grace and movements, and the ability to get weird and match Bruce Wayne’s freak (which has never been better represented than Michael Keaton’s Batman and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman). De Armas and Gonzalez, in particular, have the required action chops too.
Of course, much will likely depend on who is cast as the DCU’s Batman, as getting the chemistry between the two actors right will be crucial. While there’s plenty of speculation surrounding who that will be, with 1923‘s Brandon Sklenar frequently mentioned, there’s no sign anyone will be announced anytime soon. Still, with Gunn expecting this movie to come before 2030, then there could be some firmer updates sooner rather than later as we move into the second half of the decade.
