One of Eddie Murphy’s Best Movies Finally Returns to Free Streaming (But Only One Sequel Is There)

Eddie Murphy has starred in one box office hit after another, and now one of his best movies of all time is finally back on streaming. The actor broke into Hollywood as a cast member on Saturday Night Live in the ‘80s and has been bringing his high-energy comedic chops to screens ever since in movies like The Nutty Professor, Trading Places, and Dolemite Is My Name. As fans await Murphy’s return as the voice of Donkey in Shrek 5, they can catch his best movie ever back on streaming, but there’s a bit of a catch.

Tubi subscribers can now stream both Beverly Hills Cop and its sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II, on Tubi. The movies started streaming on the free streaming platform on September 1st alongside two other Murphy favorites –Coming to America and Daddy Day Care. Murphy took on one of his most iconic roles in the franchise, with his portrayal of street-smart Detroit cop Axel Foley and his misadventures in Beverly Hills sparking three additional films. Unfortunately, the two later sequels aren’t streaming on Tubi. Beverly Hills Cop 3 is available to rent or buy, and the fourth movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, is only available on Netflix.

Why You Should Watch Beverly Hills Cop

Coming just two years after his movie debut in 48 Hrs. in 1982, Beverly Hills Cop made Murphy a box-office superstar and launched him to global stardom. The film, which was the highest-grossing movie of that year in the U.S. with a $320 million worldwide box office haul, introduced moviegoers to one of the most iconic characters in comedy, with Axel’s tendency to bend the rules and the fish-out-of-water scenario he finds himself in making him impossible not to love. Murphy shines in the role, showcasing his exceptional comedic timing and improvisational skills with quick-witted dialogue and plenty of memorable lines.

Outside of putting Murphy’s great comedic chops on full display and being pure comedic gold, Beverly Hills Cop is just an all-around fun time. Axel’s antics are endlessly amusing and rewatchable, the numerous car chases and epic stunts keep things fast-paced and interesting, and the movie offers plenty of nostalgia with an 80s setting brought to life through an iconic ‘80s soundtrack with songs like “The Heat Is On” and “Stir It Up.” To this day, few movies have captured the essence of the 1980s and hilarity like the original Beverly Hills Cop. Although the sequels weren’t as well received as the original film, they remain solid contenders in the comedic sphere and continue to showcase Murphy’s comedic chops.
