2025’s Horror Remake of a Disney Favorite is Already Available to Stream

Disney classics are a touchstone of childhood nostalgia, but as some titles begin to enter the public domain, a handful of beloved Disney films have received nightmarish remakes. The past several years have seen filmmakers transform the magic and whimsy of childhood movies into the blood and violence of slashers in everything from Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey to The Mouse Trap. Another Poohniverse entry into the fairytale-turned-gorefest phenomenon debuted earlier this year, and horror fans can already stream it.

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, the third installment in The Twisted Childhood Universe/ Poohniverse, made its streaming debut on Peacock on September 5th. Directed by Scott Chambers, the movie is a creepy retelling of J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan that centers the beloved childhood heroes of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell as sinister villains. When her younger brother Michael is kidnapped by the pair and taken to Neverland, Wendy embarks on a twisted and bloody quest to save him. The movie, which holds a 43% criticsโ€™ score and 69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, stars Martin Portlock, Megan Placito, Kit Green, Peter DeSouza-Feighoney, Teresa Banham, Olumide Olorunfemi, Campbell Wallace, and Nicholas Woodeson.

Why You Should Watch Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare

Many of the movies in The Twisted Childhood Universe have been slammed as dull and uninspired, but Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare broke the mold and established itself as a successful and creepy reimagining of a childhood classic and an all-around solid slasher. The movie maintains all of the classic elements of Barrieโ€™s beloved story but drops the charm in favor of a more grounded and grittier story, turning the stunted adolescence of the boy who never grew up into a terrifying serial killer and giving Tinkerbell a tragic backstory with a somber twist to her pixie dust.

The movie also sees Neverland transform from a magical place of wonder and whimsy into a dark and decaying nightmare landscape that in and of itself is terrifying, serving as the perfect setting for the unsettling story. Portlock and Green deliver compelling and haunting performances that help drive the story. The movie also boasts all the essentials of a good slasher, including a menacing and believable killer, plenty of gore, brutal kills, and decent jump scares. Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is an entertaining watch that has a noticeably improved production value compared to earlier films in the franchise, making it a standout in the film series.
