There’s still a long wait before Shrek 5 hits theaters in 2027, but fans can now stream all six Shrek movies at home. Starring Mike Myers as the titular lonely, green ogre alongside Eddie Murphy’s Donkey and Cameron Diaz’s Princess Fiona, Shrek debuted on the big screen in 2001 and launched what would become one of DreamWorks’ highest-grossing franchises of all time, the series grossing $4 billion across its six films. More than a decade later, the original film remains a nostalgic watch that continues to charm new generations. Unfortunately, finding the complete Shrek franchise on streaming has been notoriously difficult – at least until now.

Fans of the franchise will be able to stream all six Shrek films this September, but you will need at least two streaming services to do it, and some patience. As of September 1st, Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), and Shrek the Third (2007) are available to stream on both Peacock and Netflix, the latter platform also being the current home to Shrek Forever After (2010). The spin-off Puss in Boots film series, led by Antonio Banderas as the sword-wielding feline, will also stream this month, with Puss in Boots (2011) available on Netflix as of September 1st. The franchise’s sixth and most recent installment, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), is scheduled to begin streaming on Peacock on September 10th.
Why You Should Watch the Shrek Franchise
The Shrek franchise is one of the most beloved animated franchises and a touchstone of many people’s childhoods. A refreshing break from the classic Disney fairy tale formula, the franchise turns traditional fairy-tale tropes on their heads by presenting a flawed and loveable hero in Shrek and an anti-damsel in Fiona. All six movies’ PG rating cements them as kids’ films, but they appeal to all generations and feature humor for all ages, including a parody of classic fairy tale conventions, witty dialogue, pop culture references, and hilarious banter between Shrek and Donkey that results in endlessly quotable lines like “What are you doing in my swamp?” and “Ogres are like onions. They have layers.”
The rare feat of all six movies finding streaming homes comes at the perfect time. The Shrek franchise, and the main film series, is back in the spotlight after Shrek 5 was confirmed to be in the works. The upcoming film will bring back Myers, Murphy, and Diaz alongside Zendaya as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia. Plot details for the movie, directed by Walt Dohrn, are being kept under wraps. Shrek 5 is scheduled to release in theaters on June 30, 2027.
