An MCU Fan Has the Perfect Defense of Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Rumored Cameo

Another Marvel Cinematic Universe star has recently been rumored to be making a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and this new fan theory explains why this would be perfect. Destin Daniel Cretton’s upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already gearing up to be a thrilling adventure for the now-anonymous Peter Parker (Tom Holland). Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando will be reprising their MCU roles of the Hulk, the Punisher, and the Scorpion, respectively, but they might be joined by yet another MCU rising star.

Recent rumors have suggested that Tom Holland will also be joined by Florence Pugh in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reprising her role of Yelena Belova. Pugh debuted in the MCU in 2021’s Black Widow as the surrogate sister of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and a fellow Black Widow. She has since become a member of the New Avengers team, which one theory shared on X could hint at the new team seeking to recruit Peter Parker in Brand New Day. This would be a perfect side-story to explore in the MCU’s upcoming Spider-Man sequel.

Why Yelena Belova and the New Avengers Would Be Perfect For Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The New Avengers came together in 2025’s Thunderbolts* as one of the MCU’s newest superhero teams, comprised of reformed villains and antiheroes who operate simultaneously to an as-yet-unseen Avengers team led by Sam Wilson’s Captain America (Anthony Mackie). The New Avengers will have a central role in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, which will be the next MCU movie to release following Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This means Spider-Man being recruited into the New Avengers team would set him up for a role in Doomsday, which makes Yelena Belova’s possible involvement in Brand New Day more exciting.

Following his experiences in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seems unlikely that Peter Parker would want to join another Avengers team. He’d perhaps want to continue as just a small-scale, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, which might make Yelena Belova’s offers of recruitment into the New Avengers futile. However, this would be a fantastic way to create connectivity between the MCU’s recent projects, and it would make sense for the New Avengers to want to recruit such a notable, New York-based hero such as Spider-Man.

Tom Holland hasn’t yet been confirmed to be cast in Avengers: Doomsday, but it seems very likely that he’ll be involved in the next batch of casting announcements for the Phase 6 crossover. Spider-Man is one of the MCU’s most crucial and popular heroes – only three movies have grossed $1 billion since Endgame, and two of them are Spider-Man movies – so his involvement in Doomsday would ensure strong audience turnout in theaters. It would be great to see Spider-Man interact with other heroes again, and Yelena Belova and the New Avengers’ appearance in Brand New Day would accomplish this.
