While The Wolverine isn't scheduled to open for over two more weeks, industry experts are already projecting that it will have a $70 million opening weekend debut. While $70 million would be less than the opening weekends of Iron Man 3 and Man Of Steel, it should come as very positive news for 20th Century Fox. The Wolverine was made on an estimated $100 million budget, which was around half of the estimated budgets of Iron Man 3 and Man Of Steel. A $70 million domestic debut for The Wolverine would put the film on the right path to becoming profitable. A $70 million debut would also give The Wolverine the eighth best opening of the year at the domestic box office, right around the same amount that Star Trek Into Darkness opened with. Ironically, The Wolverine could prove to be the hero of the month of July, as the same Wrap article that reveals The Wolverine's projections focuses on the megaflops of July. The Lone Ranger got off to a disappointing start, and projections for Pacific Rim and R.I.P.D. aren't looking good. Another thing that The Wolverine has going for it is that the film could build serious momentum over Comic-Con weekend. The world premiere of The Wolverine is next week, and if the film gets good word-of-mouth, then the opening weekend could skyrocket. Of course, bad word-of-mouth could have the opposite effect.
