Why Transformers Fans Should Be Excited for the Next Phase of Movies
G1 Throwback

If you were on of the many fans who accused Michael Bay of raping your childhood with his Transformers films, then you should be the first in line for the upcoming Bumblebee spinoff film.
The Bumblebee movie will be a prequel story to the main Transformers film series - one that takes the franchise back to the 1980s, and will invoke a the look and tone of the classic "G1" (Generation 1) Transformers cartoon series.
If hardcore fans ever had an opportunity to recapture the nostalgia they lost with the Bay films, this will be it.

Transformers: The Last Knight frames its tale with a backstory set in the Dark Ages, during the rise of King Arthur. That story involves a team of Transformer Knights hiding out on Earth at the time, and how they became the secret allies of King Arthur, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table. While that particular storyline was already explored from beginning to end, it actually opens the door to more potential "throwback stories" to come.
One Transformers property fans are eager to see in the movie universe is no doubt Beast Wars - and now that Transformers 2 - 5 have detailed Transformers involvement in many epochs of humans history (prehistoric, Medieval, Ancient Egypt, and the 1950s), it's all too easy to extended the franchise into something like the Beast Wars era.
So, if you've been waiting to see "Optimus Primal" and the rest of the Beast Wars Transformers get their due on the big screen, now is the time to make your voice heard! (Because it might happen!)

We here at Comicbook.com don't like to indulge in schadenfreude, but there is a definite silver lining to Michael Bay leaving the Transformers movies behind - whether you love or hate what he did with the franchise. That silver lining is for the next Transformers movies to be crafted from a totally new creative vision - one that could affect so many other aspects of the films.
Perhaps it will be a change in tone, with less silly slapstick comedy and more intelligent wit. Maybe there will be more character development and fewer one-note stereotypes. Maybe those more rounded and developed characters will be Transformers robots, instead of spending the bulk of our time with the human characters and all their drama.
While Michael Bay may have pioneered the way to bring Transformers to life in live-action (and all the action that comes with them), there is still a lot of room for this franchise to expand and mature, creatively, which is an opportunity fans should be thrilled for when Transformers 6 & 7 come down the pipeline.
