Walt Disney Animation Studios' Big Hero 6 beat How To Train Your Dragon 2 at the Academy Awards to win Best Animated Feature and now it has beaten them where it counts, the box office.

Fox's How To Train Your Dragon 2 was the highest grossing animated film of 2014 with $619M, but this weekend Disney's Big Hero 6 has topped it with $620M. Domestically Big Hero 6 has taken in $221 and is going over the $400M benchmark at the international box office this weekend.

Big Hero 6 received a huge bump overseas when it opening in China late last month. It has already grossed $51M, besting Frozen for the highest grossing animated release in that market. In Japan, it has added $75M and is the second highest grossing Disney  animated release ever. It has also done extremely well in Korea, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Currently, Big Hero 6 is the third biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios release ever globally, behind only Frozen and The Lion King.

Big Hero 6 is an action-packed comedy-adventure, inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, centers on the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada as they team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.
