Tekken is coming to a comic book near you. ComicBook.com has exclusively confirmed that Titan Comics will be publishing new comics based on the popular series of fighting games in 2017.

Tekken is the most popular fighting game series of all time. Bandai Namco released the first Tekken game in arcades in 1994 and the series has sold a whopping 42.5 million units to date. The most recent game, Tekken 7, has been out in arcades since 2015 and will be released for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One early next year.

Tekken centers around the King of the Iron Fist tournament, which is hosted by the Mishima Zaibatsu corporation. Winning the tournament guarantees control of the company and the privilege of hosting the next tournament. The new Tekken comic will feature popular characters from the games like Heihachi Mishima, Yoshimitsu, Nina Williams and Paul Phoenix and will tie into the game's storied canon.

"Tekken is one of the most exciting games on the market, and as a lifelong fan, I can't wait to delve more into these characters' thrilling stories!" said Titan Comics editor Jessica Burton, "The incredible visuals and fighting pace are sure to make a brilliant transition into comics, one we're delighted to be adding to our games line!"

Titan has recently made a splash on the comics scene with its line of video game-based comics. Titan also publishes series based on Assassin's Creed, Dishonored, and Dark Souls.

Titan did not name a creative team for the upcoming Tekken series but promised another announcement "very shortly", perhaps at this weekend's New York Comic Con.
