Gamora's Origin In New Clips Fom Guardians Of The Galaxy Animated Series

Marvel Entertainment has released some new clips from their animated Guardians of the Galaxy series that give us a look at Gamora's backstory.

The first scene begins with a spaceship landing on an icy planet. Inside: Gamora, Nebula and Korath are gathered around a holographic image of Ronan. He informs the three warriors that they are being sent on a mission to find someone in a temple and extract information. The warrior that succeeds will be rewarded with being Ronan's second in command. This excites them, and they take off running toward the temple. Being competitive, Nebula and Gamora fight each other along the way, but their fighting comes to a halt when they encounter a large creature defending the temple. Gamora believes she has defeated it by cutting the ice beneath its feet, sending into the water below, but it reaches for her leg and drags her into the water as well.

In the following scene, Gamora, who still in the water, sees an opening to temple. She swims to it and quickly comes across her target, who is some sort of wizard. After some back and forth he places his hand on her head and it awakes memories of her childhood, realizing her mind has been controlled by Thanos.

Guardians of the Galaxy the animated series premieres Sept. 26 at 9:30 p.m. ET on Disney XD, with two back-to-back episodes. A sneak preview of the first episode will air Sept. 5 at 9 p.m. ET.
