Guardians of the Galaxy made it under more Christmas trees than any other item this holiday season based on some reports, making it one of the top-selling gifts of 2014.
According to Amazon’s United Kingdom holiday sales results, The Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-Ray and DVD was the online retail giant’s top-selling Christmas present. And the Guardians of the Galaxy is also currently topping the gift charts in movies and TV on the United States Amazon site.
Marvel’s intergalactic adventure even outperformed Frozen, the Disney Animation film that spawned a pop culture phenomenon to rival Guardians’. Though the film had a theatrical release in 2013, it only became available on Blu -Ray and DVD this year.
“Entertainment products have been the clear winners this festive season,” Xavier Garambois, Amazon’s vice president of EU Retail told Yahoo. “We've seen customers getting together with family and friends to enjoy films, music and video games with blockbuster titles becoming bestsellers across the country.”
Guardians' win is about as predictable as Groot’s vocabulary, as Guardians of the Galaxy currently sits as 2014’s highest grossing film in the United States. According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed over $332.6 million dollars domestically, leaving a large margin between 2014's runner-up, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part One.
