Marvel's Secret Wars is about to make the year 2099 a far more heroic one.

That's because Marvel has announced "Secret Wars 2099" as their latest tie-in series to massive crossover event. In Secret Wars 2099, the world of Spider-Man 2099 will drastically expand to include and official Avengers 2099 squad headlined by a futuristic Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. But instead of working independently as Earth's Mightiest Heroes, these Avengers will squarely rest in the pockets of Alchemex, the notorious corporation that owns and rules just about everything in the 2099 universe.

Secret Wars 2099 will replace Marvel's ongoing Spider-Man 2099 series when Secret Wars begins in May, with Spider-Man 2099's creative team of Peter David and Will Sliney making the jump.

Despite its billing as a Secret Wars tie-in, David promises readers that 2099 will only be tangentially linked to the larger multiverse-spanning conflict.

"It's set on Battleworld the way the others are, but honestly, it doesn't tie into Secret Wars beyond that," David told IGN. "The events of Secret Wars proper might be mentioned in passing somewhere, but 2099 is definitely its own story."

Interestingly, IGN's report says that Marvel would not confirm Secret Wars 2099's standing as a miniseries or ongoing series. Perhaps if reader response and sales bode well for the series, it might find life after Secret Wars has concluded.

You can check out some of Sliney's character designs for Avengers 2099 below, which IGN debuted.
