This year at Comic Con International: San Diego, Arrow actor David Ramsey told a group of reporters including ComicBook.com that The CW was interested in trying out a Suicide Squad spinoff of Arrow.

At the time, we heard through the grapevine that such a project was unlikely but possible -- perhaps as a miniseries in the vein of Marvel's Agent Carter which would run during Arrow's hiatus.

Now it seems that there won't be a show at all, in part because Warner Bros. is making a Suicide Squad feature film that goes into production shortly and will be in theaters following Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

During an interview with MTVArrow Season 2.5 co-writer Keto Shimizu was asked whether the movie made it more likely that any spinoff would take place in the comics than on TV.

"Yeah, I imagine so," Shimizu, who also writes for the Arrow TV series, admitted. "And as heartbreaking as that is, and as much a lot of us would like to see a Suicide Squad TV show exist, in light of what's happening in the film world, it doesn't seem like it's a possibility."

That's not entirely surprising; while the Batman family of characters is an apparent exception, DC generally doesn't like to have mulitple different iterations of its characters in other media. Batman characters, for instance, were forbidden from appearing on Smallville during that show's run since the Dark Knight Trilogy was happening at the time, and a similar embargo on certain Batman-related characters exists for Arrow and The Flash. It's generally believed that Roy Harper, best known as Green Arrow's sidekick and a member of the Teen Titans, will not show up in Titans due to his Arrow ties.

The feature film, of course, just lost actor Tom Hardy, who bowed out for undisclosed reasons and is expected to be replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal. Recently, showrunner Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that the Suicide Squad will appear on Arrow again this season, but it's not yet known when.
