Alan Tudyk has seemed conspicuously absent from the trailers and promotional materials for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story so far. Well, it turns out he was hiding in plain sight. EW has confirmed that Tudyk’s role is motion capture and that he will be playing the droid that appears on the magazine’s cover (see above).

Tudyk is a fan favorite actor who worked on Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity as pilot Wash and Dollhouse as Alpha. He also played Tucker McGee in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil and co-starred in the sitcom Suburgatory. Most recently, he launched a web series called Con Man and played Marcus in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and shortly before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. In the film, resistance fighters embark on a daring mission to steal the Empire’s plans for the Death Star.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Jonathan Aris. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, from a story conceived by John Knoll.

Principal photography took place at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire beginning in August 2015, with some scenes shot in Maldives, Iceland, and Jordan. Scheduled reshoots began in June 2016.
