The Last Jedi hits theaters this Friday and Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25, with a whole 18 months until the release of Episode IX, making audiences wonder what other adventures Lucasfilm has in store. A recent rumor hints that X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg is attached to a Star Wars-related project nicknamed "Tin Can," hinting at Boba Fett's armor.

OmegaUnderground reports that a film is slated to shoot at Pinewood Studios, the familiar Star Wars filming location, with Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan attached as producers. This far from clarifies that the picture in question is centered around Boba Fett, but after some digging, many signs point towards a new film exploring the bounty hunter.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, the tentative plan was to create a trilogy of films in the Skywalker Saga and a trilogy of spinoff films. With Rogue One and Solo covering two of those spinoff movies, the subject of the third film is still uncertain.

In 2013, a report from Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Chronicle director Josh Trank had been hired to develop a Boba Fett film with Kinberg writing. In 2015, however, Trank parted ways with Lucasfilm, leaving open not only a film in Lucasfilm's schedule but also a director's chair. Kinberg's involvement with Lucasfilm, on the other hand, still seemingly existed.

With the variety of compelling characters already established in the galaxy far, far away, in addition to the potential for new characters, the question remained of why Boba Fett should get his own film. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy explained in 2015 why she felt the bounty hunter should be explored.

"It's still one of the stories that we absolutely want to tell," Kennedy shared. "There is a lot of innovative technology in and around what it is we're doing with that story, so for a lot of reasons, we were comfortable postponing that. But we're definitely still developing it."

All these details about the future spinoff film and Kinberg's involvement, along with the "Tin Can" codename, could result in the reveal of a Boba Fett picture. With The Last Jedi hitting theaters soon, we hope to learn new information in the near future.

The Last Jedi hits theaters this Friday.
