According to Fantha Tracks, the working title for Star Wars: Episode IX is “Black Diamond” while the film is being produced under the business name of Carbonado Industries (UK) Ltd. The two names work well together, considering that in nature carbonado is commonly known as “black diamond.” The name “Black Diamond” also has a bit of a tie to Star Wars itself. Carbonado is known for its strong luminescence, a term Yoda used in something he said to Luke during The Empire Strikes Back.

“For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is,” Yoda says. “Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere! Yes, even between the land and the ship.”

In addition, the information from Fantha Tracks, Bleeding Cool found additional support for “Black Diamond” being Episode IX‘s working title. That site found a profile for a production assistant that listed working for Lucasfilm on “Black Diamond” as part of his work history.

While there is no official word from Lucasiflm about Episode IX‘s working title, there are a few things that we do know about the upcoming final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Following Colin Trevorrow’s removal from the project, J.J. Abrams will return to direct and will also co-write the film with Chris Terrio and production will begin in 2018 ahead of an expected December 20, 2019 release date.

And while that is a long wait, Star Wars fans won’t be entirely without entertainment. Star Wars: The Last Jedi just debuted in theaters this weekend and the standalone Han Solo movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, is set to debut on May 25, 2018.
