Peter Mayhew has been revealing pages of an earlier script for "The Star Wars," as it was known in earlier drafts, throughout the year. The actor, who has portrayed Chewbacca throughout the years since the first film, likes giving his fans some behind-the-scenes looks like this.

Well, the pages he revealed this week have some interesting twists. For one, lightsabers are flat-out called "Laser Swords" in the script, something that George Lucas still called them right up to the end of his Star Wars career. The scene, the confrontation between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi, also looks like it once had much more action, with "a sudden lunge" and "a lightning movement of the Sith."

But much more importantly, Old Ben lives! When the stormtroopers charge toward him and Vader, and the others are escaping, Ben deflects Vader's attack, and drops a heavy blast door between them. Luke grabs Ben and gets him onto the ship, escaping all together.

Check out the script pages, from a draft printed 1/1/76, in the embedded post above. It's an interesting alternate take on events. Of course, we know that Kenobi was struck down, and became more powerful than we could possibly imagine.
