Aside from the upcoming standalone film Rogue One, which is being composed by Alexandre Desplat, the five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Williams has scored every Star Wars films, and with every new film in the saga, Williams has perfectly blended new and old material, creating idealistic, uplifting, and stirring compositions.
On Saturday, during John Williams’ Film Night at Tanglewood, Williams conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra, having them play some of the memorable music from Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

At one point during the concert, according to MassLive, Williams told the audience that he will soon begin composing music for Star Wars: Episode VIII, which officially wrapped principal photography in July. Williams also revealed that he has seen a rough cut of Episode VIII and joked with the audience about not knowing the identity of Rey’s parents.
Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, welcomes back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.
