To the disappointment of many, Star Wars and The Last Jedi will be skipping this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, instead focusing their attention on the Disney-centric D23 exposition that will be held this weekend. Although this means we shouldn’t expect any bombshells to be dropped or footage to be screened at SDCC, that doesn’t mean the convention isn’t worth attending if you’re a Star Wars fan.

“‘Help me Obi-Wan Kenobiโฆyou’re my only hope.’ It’s the phrase that spurned a farm boy to be a hero, made an exiled Jedi come out of hiding and ignited our imaginations for the past four decades. To help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, one of the most iconic moments in modern film history is captured here, in this Collector’s Gallery statue from Gentle Giant Ltd., when a holographic message from Princess Leia Organa, that was smuggled inside the memory banks of a feisty droid, is played first for a dumbfounded Luke Skywalker and then again for the message’s intended recipient, Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The limited-edition statue will sell for $140 and includes a lighting function, which will illuminate the figure.

“Ralph McQuarrie’s early designs of Han Solo display a vast difference from that of the final version as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope. Designed initially as a Lightsaber wielding, bearded Jedi Knight, this mini bust explores a fascinating look into the conceptual development of one of science fiction’s most roguish smugglers.”
The Han Solo mini-bust will cost $120 and will also be a limited edition figure.

To celebrate the original film’s 40th anniversary, the collectible company will also be bringing a large-scale Dianoga to the convention, which was based on the original Kenner model of the creature. Most notably, the monster is known for grabbing Luke Skywalker when the heroes fell into the trash compactor in the first film.
Luckily, Gentle Giant Ltd. won’t be the only brand offering incredible pieces in limited quantities, a breakdown of which you can see by reading our list of SDCC Star Wars exclusives.
