Throwback Thursday: The Walking Dead Season Four

It’s Friday Eve so we’re going to celebrate by fixing our walker withdrawals, if only a little, and take another trip down memory lane with The Walking Dead‘s fourth season.

Season four started in a time of peace for Rick Grimes and his merry band of survivors at their Georgia prison. He had put his gun away in favor of farming and cultivating resources in the area. The good times didn’t last too long. Disease ran rampant in the prison as its fences grew weaker.A mystery ran through much of the season as a pair of sick character were killed and burnt until Carol revealed herself as their slayer, claiming to have had the best interest of the entire group in mind. Rick, however, banished her from the prison.

On top of the internal threats brewing at the prison, the Governor was never too far away. Having all but lost his mind in season three, he came back with a vengeance in The Walking Dead‘s fourth season, rounding up a group of new survivors to eventually fight his war. He even operated under the fake name of Brian to get close with a new family and start treating a new little girl as his own daughter. The group questioned his methods and ruthlessness but ultimately decided his leadership would be best. He scared them into it.

When the Governor showed up at the prison with his new soldiers, he had Hershel and Michonne as hostages. Rick pleaded with the mad man to spare his friends and invited the Governor and his group to join their thriving community but, instead, the Governor severed Hershel’s head and prison-destroying battle ensued.

Despite winning the battle, Rick was badly injured and the prison was no longer safe. The group was left scattered until they one by one stumbled upon signs for a sanctuary by the name of Terminus.

Along the way, Daryl and Beth shared several bonding moments as they torched a house prior to Beth’s kidnapping. Rick, Carl and Michonne would encounter Joe’s brutal group which had their “claimed” set of rules. Tyreese would find Carol and their story would lead to one of the most memorable and heartbreaking moments of the entire The Walking Dead series. Lizzie’s madness forced Carol to tell her, “Look at the flowers,” as she shot her in the back of the head.

To cap the season, much of the group would be reunited at Terminus, including newcomers Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene who found Glenn on their “rescue mission” to Washington D.C.. The group would soon learn, though, that Terminus was no sanctuary at all but audiences would have to wait out the long months following the cliffhanger of our beloved survivors being trapped in a train car.

The Walking Dead will return for its seventh season in October.
