How many times have you sat and had the conversation with your friends about the first things you would do in the zombie apocalypse? Is that just me?

Either way, now you that you’ve thought about it, take a second and admit that you wouldn’t actually be the Rick Grimes, Shane Walsh, or Negan of the world. Most of us would probably end up reeling in some walkers while we snored and getting bitten before we could wake up to fight it.
Assuming that wasn’t the case, the majority of us probably aren’t in good enough shape to out run the threats of the post-apocalyptic world. So, death by bite would be all too close by.
You know who this wouldn’t be an issue for? The athletes competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. They would have one heck of an upper hand on the average folk watching them from the couch like yours truly. That said, some of those athletes would be more useful in a world plagued with zombies than others.
Let’s take a look at the top 5 Olympians best suited for the zombie apocalypse.
Michael Phelps & Katie Ledecky
ย
Michael Phelps is the most decorated athlete in the history of the Olympic Games and Katie Ledecky has emerged from the water as a world record holder this summer.
Why would Phelps and Ledeckyย be useful in the zombie apocalypse? They would simply survive.
Zombies have proven to be quite useless in water. Fear the Walking Dead showed us what happens when they make it to the ocean.ย Sure, they can float, but they can’t swim. What better way to escape a herd of walkers than by taking some strides across the ocean, especially when you can do it faster than anyone else and for a significantly longer distance.
The two wouldn’t necessarily be outย in the water with strictly selfish self-preservation interests in mind, though. They’ve provenย to be team players time and time again as they put the American team on their back forย relay event Gold in the men’s and women’s competitions.
French Fencers

The French fencing team dominated in Rio and has taken home a pair of gold medals in their run. Gathier Grumier, Yannick Borel, Daniel Jรฉrentย and Jean-Michel Lucenayย handily took home the gold in 2016’s team fencing contest and Grumierย also earned himself a solo bronze medal.
Needless to say, swordplay is clutch in a world loaded with zombies. Keeping your kills quick and quiet is all too important, something Michonne knows very well. Don’t forget, before Michonneย joined Rick and the group at the prison in Season 3 of The Walking Dead, she survived on her own in the threatening and dangerous world. Having a team of four skilled swordsmen would be a welcome group of security added to any group of survivors.
Kim Rhode
ย
On the contrary to the quiet kills mentioned on the previous slide, Kim Rhodeย is ready to blow away zombies or any other threat that could pop up from any range. Theย American double trap and skeet shooter could take down an approaching herd of walkers (or Negan’s men) from the bell tower with ease.
Rifleman have come in handy several times across a number of zombie shows and movies. Will Smith’s Robert Neville in I Am Legend was a great shot which helped him survive (but couldn’t stop him from losing his mind a bit) and The Walking Dead has used snipers on high ground in both its comics and TV shows. Rhodeย would be a welcome and useful addition to Rick Grimes’ group having won a total of six Olympic medals so far, three of which are Gold.
Usain Bolt
ย
Rule #1 in Zombieland: Cardio.
If you can outrun a threat, you’ll survive it, and Usain Bolt can outrun just about anything. The Jamaican athlete has become one of the biggest draws to the track events at the Olympics for consecutive games.ย
Bolt holds several world records in different sprinting events and even throws back a smile when he crosses the finish line ahead of his opponents. He’s won three straight Gold medals in the 100 meter dash and has totalled over a dozen Gold medals in Olympics and world championships.
If speed won’t keep you alive in the world of the undead, nothing will.
Ku Bon Chan

โ World Archery (@worldarchery) August 12, 2016
Ku Bon Chan has killed it in the 2016 Olympic Games, earning himself and South Korea a pair of Gold medals, topping all archers he has faced and sweeping the competition.
It goes without saying that Daryl Dixon has become a fan-favorite character on The Walking Dead and his iconic weapon of choice is a crossbow. For some reason, the southerner uses a stealthy weapon to take out the roamers despite riding a loud motorcycle which would almost certainly attract a herd.
Assuming Ku could stay off of the motorcycle, his archery skills would prove valuable in the zombie apocalypse, possibly even more so than Kim Rhode’sย rifle abilities. The two talents are similar, taking out threats from a distance, but one of them is almost silent.
