Born in September 1973, the actor was raised in Hull, England. Andrew was first introduced to theater at the age 14 when he was cast in his school's production of Oliver! He went on to spent a summer at the National Youth Theater in London where his interest in acting grew, prompting him to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Following his school years, Andrew pursued his career professionally in numerous on-screen projects. The actor got his start on the sitcoms like This Life, The Woman in White, and Wuthering Heights. He also starred in several films like Human Traffic and Love Actually.

However, fans know the actor best for his work on The Walking Dead. Andrew was cast as Rick Grimes in April 2010 for the original AMC series that's based on Robert Kirkman's eponymous comic books. The actor nabbed the leading role in the show to play a cop who's suddenly faced with a zombie apocalypse. The show rocketed Andrew into global stardom as the show quickly became a hit. Currently, it holds the highest Nielsen ratings of any cable TV series and draws in the most viewers ages 18-49 as well.

As of now, the actor's career is solely focused on The Walking Dead as Andrew will return to the show for Season 7. In his personal life, the actor is a proud father of two and husband to Gael Anderson.
