Steamrolling into The Walking Dead's seventh season expectations for the series have never been higher.

The show is approaching some of the best known and most highly acclaimed chapters of Robert Kirkman's comic books, which executive producer Greg Nicotero will be more accurately adapted this season than ever before.

Heading into the All Out War story line, The Walking Dead promises to deliver some epic battle scenes. The last time Rick's group was forced to formulate a plan of attack and execute a strike in enemy territory, the group was pitted against the Governor and his Woodbury army. After their raid of Woodbury, the Governor returned months later for another action-packed showdown on at the prison's front door.

The Walking Dead is shaping up to match - or even exceed - those moments with the explosive events ahead.

"There are a bunch of groups, and like everything on this show, everything comes to a head eventually," Reedus said. "There are definitely scenes shot that are as epic and as large."

"It's crazy," Reedus added.

Speaking of crazy, the visual effects team behind the AMC series elected to go all out in adapting Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's work on the black and white pages to the extent of bringing Ezekiel's tiger Shiva to live-action form. Reedus, reluctant to reveal whether or not he has worked with the tiger, is blown away by the jungle cat's inclusion on the series.

"I think it's been basically awe," Reedus said. "It's so well done and it's such a complicated thing to do. I think it's always a little odd, I guess, for whoever's doing that, but when you see it put together, and you see how much work it takes to do that, it's pretty f---ing amazing, to be honest. It's kind of mind-blowing."

Following the premiere of The Walking Dead's seventh season, ComicBook.com will be live with Dwight actor Austin Amelio for a recap of the brutal episode and a look into the future of the series on After the Dead.

The Walking Dead returns for its seventh season on October 23 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
