You simply never know who will show up in WWE these days, though that sentiment extends far beyond one-off events like the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam. Over the years, a host of WWE Legends have shown up in surprise appearances, but we’ve also seen several Legends come back for full feuds and multiple dates. Names that come to mind are Legends like Trish Stratus, Edge, The Rock, Lita, and, most recently, John Cena. Now that we’re past the halfway point of the year, there are three WWE Legends who could possibly make their return to the fold before the year is out, and one could even happen as soon as this month.

3. The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy)

Now, you might immediately say, “Hey, didn’t The Hardys show up in NXT earlier this year?” Why yes they did, and they’ve since made several appearances there. Those appearances though are due to their current affiliation with TNA, which WWE has been working with considerably over the past year, including having WWE talent hold TNA Championships.
While The Hardys have battled it out with WWE talent during TNA pay-per-views and events, they are still TNA talents. That said, with how well they’ve been received during every appearance in WWE during that partnership, it feels like only a matter of time before they make their full-time WWE return, and I could easily see that happening late in the year ahead of the road to WrestleMania and even the Royal Rumble.
The Hardys will forever be synonymous with WWE, and all you need to do is listen to every NXT crowd reacting to them to know that they’ve got another big WWE run in them before all is said and done. This feels like a sooner-than-later thing, but even if it doesn’t happen this year, it feels inevitable at some point down the road.
2. Chris Jericho

While Chris Jericho is one of the legendary stars of WWE, he’s also one of the most prominent stars of All Elite Wrestling, and was one of the stars that helped cement AEW as a player in the world of professional wrestling. So it’s easy to understand why Jericho leaving AEW would be a big deal, especially if that leads to a WWE return in the process.
That is an actual possibility though, as Jericho’s AEW contract is reportedly up near the end of this year. Adding fuel to the fire is that Jericho hasn’t been seen on AEW TV for a while (though he’s been on tour with his band, to be fair), and there’s been a report that stated Jericho and WWE might be testing the waters on a potential reunion through back channels.
If that happened, it would be Jericho’s first appearance in WWE since the Royal Rumble back in 2018, as he would later work with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and then AEW, and the rest is history on that one. Jericho is a master of reinvention, and there’s no doubt he could come up with something interesting if he did decide to have one more run in WWE.
1. AJ Lee

This is the one that until a week ago felt like wishful thinking, but after this week’s Monday Night Raw, it now feels like an inevitability. You can thank Becky Lynch for that, who not only helped her husband Seth Rollins screw CM Punk over once again but then confronted Punk in the ring the following day and trolled him with insults and slaps, sending him out of the ring seething.
Those final words from Punk that she would regret putting her hands on him and his previous tease of holding a fan’s sign calling for AJ Lee have led many to believe that Lee’s WWE return is only a matter of time, and it could even happen as soon as the next week or two so that WWE can set up the mixed Tag Team match for WrestlePalooza. It also doesn’t hurt that her appearance may have been leaked by the WWE Shop of all things.
The last time AJ Lee was in a WWE ring competing was back in 2015, and now it appears that she could be returning after 10 years away. If that’s the case, you can expect to see her featured heavily on Raw and perhaps even SmackDown over the next few weeks, as WrestlePalooza takes place on September 20th, so we don’t even need to wait too long to see this perhaps become a reality.
