The network had already released the official promotional photos for “Twenty-Sided, Die,” which was filming back in November when ComicBook.com paid a visit to the set of several CW series.
In the episode, Liv has to eat the brains of a Dungeons and Dragons expert, and in order to tease clues out of her visions she recruits Ravi, Clive, and Major to play D&D with her.
“I think the brains have integrated with the overall storylines this year in a way that is even more refined,” series star Rose McIver said during an on-set interview. “The writing is so clever and each time — like, right now Liv’s on a Dungeons & Dragons brain, a dungeon master, which for me has been like learning a foreign language; I didn’t know that world growing up. The good thing about that is that because it’s somebody who narrates and is able to command groups and has a sense of adventure, there is a voice throughout it that flows into her own life and her ability to manipulate situations and make decisions for groups and encourage people to adventure.”

EAT A KNIEVEL
JASON DOHRING (“VERONICA MARS”) GUEST STARS
If you’ve ever thought that “Evel Knievel” looks suspiciously like the delicious Eastern European snack food “Knish,” you probably should seek help.
That said, a daredevil’s brain will be getting chowed down on in this episode, so maybe you were closer than you ever thought.
Liv (Rose McIver) shares the brain of a former daredevil with her new boyfriend, and the experience brings them closer. Blaine (David Anders) is back to his old ways. Meanwhile, Ravi (Rahul Kohli) makes progress in his new research. Finally, a discovery is made that could put Major (Robert Buckley) in grave danger.
Aly Michalka and Malcolm Goodwin also star.
Michael Wale directed the episode written by John Bellina.
“He’s such a professional; he’s wonderful and a huge asset to have on the show,” McIver said of Jason Dohring, whose character debuts in this episode. “Every time Rob Thomas and Diane [Ruggiero-Wright] bring back actors they’ve worked with before, it’s always because we know they’ve really loved the experience of working working with those actors, and so it’s always a gift when they arrive on set. He’s got some great ideas for his character. I can say it’s not something you’ve seen him do before.”
“Eat a Knievel” airs on May 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT following the season finale of The Flash.
TWENTY-SIDED, DIE
LIV IS THE DUNGEON MASTER
When a Dungeon Master is killed, Liv (Rose McIver) and Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) discover he was up to more than just playing in his mother’s basement. Meanwhile, Blaine’s (David Anders) experiment does not go as planned. Lastly, Ravi (Rahul Kohli) finds stumbles across some new information that could prove deadly.
Along the way, they also spent some time in Golden Age Comics & Collectables in Vancouver, where you can see them standing in the photo above.
The episode also seems to feature the return of FBI Agent Dale Bozzio, with whom Clive had a romantic fling last season before he was forced to tank her case in order to help Liv and Major.
Robert Buckley and Aly Michalka also star. Jason Bloom directed the episode written by Kit Boss.
“Twenty-Sided, Die” will air on May 30, 2017, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
MORE iZOMBIE
In the third season, Liv has discovered there are more zombies living in Seattle than she previously believed. In fact, there is a private military contractor employing a small zombie army, and that army is preparing for the day humans learn of their existence. Major finds a job and acceptance in this army.
Liv and Clive investigate the murder of a zombie family that may just set off an all-out zombie-human war. Ravi’s former boss at the Center for Disease Control shows up in Seattle to investigate the Max Rager massacre. Blaine finds living as a human with no memory of his evil past is more blessing than curse. Peyton pulls at a thread in one of her cases that may lead to the villain that’s pulling all the strings.
This season, Liv will eat the brains and take on the traits of a dominatrix, a JACKASS-style stunt man, an office gossip, a pre-school teacher, a conspiracy theorist, a dungeon master, and many more.
Along the way, there will be a lot of corporate intrigue, some relationships tested to their breaking point, and a zombie speakeasy called “The Scratching Post.”
iZombie airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
