DC and Marvel comic book fans know that summer typically brings big crossover events to their favorite books, and while we are still navigating our collective way through the 2016 events (DC's "Rebirth" and Marvel's "Civil War II") it's never too early to start looking to next year.

On the DC Comics side of things, New York Comic-Con allowed opportunity for reporters to speak with industry heavyweights like acclaimed writer Scott Snyder (Batman), who had a little bit of a big tease for what's going to happen in DC Comics' 2017 summer event:

"Yes, we're gonna be doing a big summer event, next year, next summer," Snyder told Newsarama at New York Comic Con. "It will be very Batman centric, and very rock 'n' roll."

For clarification: the "we're" Snyder refers to happens to be none other than artist Greg Capullo, who will return to do art for the event. Snyder and Capullo were the much-loved creative team on the New 52 Batman comic book; Capullo then left in 2015 to do a creator-owned project with Mark Millar. He did promise fans that he and Snyder would reunite, and now it's happening.

Geoff Johns' attempt to course-correct both DC Comics and DC Films has been a success on the comic book side (so far), with Rebirth showing strong sales and holding fan interest. The thought of a "Batman-centric" crossover event is intriguing; one wonder how many threads have already been woven into the "Rebirth" storyline to set up what will eventually happen next summer....
