The head of Marvel Studios has admitted that a key ingredient in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taken from the Star Trek film series.

Speaking to Crave, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige came to the realization that there is a destructive pattern to the third film in each Marvel Studios series.

"And I had never even thought out of this until right now, but maybe that is a trope that we…I had never thought of this before, but what do we do in Iron Man 3? Blow up Tony's house, blow up all of his suits. What did we do in Captain America 3? Shatter the Avengers, shatter his relationships with Tony Stark and half of the characters that have become his present-day foundation," Feige says. "In every part three, we can. And we've blown up Asgard in this! Oh, my god, we're one-trick ponies."

Feige then asks the interview to "Search what happens in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock." Of course, Feige already knows that "They blow up the Enterprise" and admits "That's where we got it."

Feige remembers these events correctly. In Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Captain Kirk and his crew faced off with the forces of the Klingon named Kruge. The crew destroyed their beloved ship in a last-ditch attempt to defeat the Klingons.

The Enterprise has been destroyed a couple more times since then. Star Trek Generations saw the destruction of the Enterprise-D so that the ship could be replaced with the Enterprise-E, a ship designed with a movie budget in mind instead of on a TV budget, in future films. In Star Trek Beyond, the third film in the Star Trek reboot series, the Enterprise was destroyed by Krall and his swarm of ships.

Knowing that this pattern exists, one has to wonder what kind of chaos Feige and director James Gunn are planning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Thor: Ragnarok is now playing in theaters. Other upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies include; Black Panther on February 16, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.
