A team of evil Batmen are coming to Gotham City. DC unveiled a first look at the "Dark Knights," the adversaries plaguing Gotham City in Dark Nights: Metal. Each of the characters are evil versions of Batman plucked from across the Dark Multiverse. The six characters as will appear in Gotham City under unknown circumstances, forcing Gotham's superhero community to band together to fight back.

The Dark Knights first appeared in last month's Dark Days: The Casting and are led by an unknown character said to be the "bat behind bats." The Dark Days one-shots established that Batman was looking into the Dark Multiverse, which appear to be tied to Nth Metal and other artifacts scattered across the DC Universe.

The characters, from left to right, are Murder Machine, the Red Death, Devastator, the Merciless, the Drowned, and Dawnbreaker. Each member of the Dark Knights represent a different combination of Batman with another member of the Justice League. Murder Machine is a combination of Batman and Cyborg, while the Drowned is a mix of Batman and Aquaman. If we had to guess, we'd say that Devastator (the Doomsday-looking monster) is Batman merged with Superman, while the armor-wearing Merciless is supposed to be Wonder Woman's equivalent.

Five of the six Dark Knights will star in a one-shot comic released in September and October. The Dark Knights will also appear in Dark Nights: Metal, written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo.

Dark Nights: Metal will be a six issue miniseries that begins in August. There will also be a series of one shot tie-in issues showing the effects of Dark Multiverse's invasion.
