Logan was a fitting end for the big screen version of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, but that doesn't mean he wants it to be the end of the character period.

The character of Wolverine has been tied to Jackman since the original X-Men film, but Logan was Jackman's last go-round with the character. That includes any roles on the proposed X-23 spinoff film, be they in front of or behind the camera. "No, I won't be a producer on a Laura sequel," Jackman told THR. "But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 pm to watch it though. She is just phenomenal."

That begs the question then, what happens to Wolverine? The character is too popular to be down for long, and Jackman is perfectly fine with that "I know someone will," Jackman said. "I hope it will be recast."

That's an odd thing to hear from an actor in a long-running franchise, but that stems from how Jackman originally came into the role. Dougray Scott was initially cast in the role of Wolverine but had to drop out due to Mission Impossible 2 running long. FOX asked Jackman if he could take on the part, and the rest is history.

Jackman recalls meeting with Scott after the change and coming away thoroughly impressed.

"I met him early on and I said to him, 'Man, I am sorry.' And he said, 'It's just business but you have just gotten one of the greatest roles out there so go crush it'. "I was just remember being so impressed by that and his class that and hopefully I am a big enough guy that when someone else takes over, I will do exactly what was done to me … and I feel glad to just be a part of the legacy of that character. I feel great parts — great characters out live the actors that play them. Bond, Superman, Batman …. So, there you go," Jackman said.

Eventually, someone will take up the claws once more, but Jackman's place in X-Men history is already cemented, so that will only add to the character's legacy.
